Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French headed down south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
