Be smart, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
